Nintendo Wii's rendition of Guitar Hero 3 is all the rage. The price is kind of high for a video game at $90-$100, but I can see why. It comes with a wireless "Les Paul" guitar (which is new to GH) and has amazing gameplay. With the guitar being wireless, you actually feel like you are rockin' out.
Gameplay
So, in terms of gameplay, how is the game? I find, as well as a whole bunch of people, that this game is very addicting. The concept is very easy to grasp; you match the colored "nodes" to the color-coded buttons on the guitar. To strum, you use the Strumbar. You can strum up or down, but my preference is to always strum down. You then have two other features; the Rock Meter and the Points meter. These two things can effect your score in good and bad ways. Here is how they work. The Rock Meter starts out in the middle in the "OK" zone. When you start hitting notes, the Rock Meter will gradually go up to the "Good" zone. If you miss notes, the rock meter will descend down into the "Bad" zone. The Points Meter is kind of the same. Every time you hit notes you get x amount of points. There is also another little feature called "Star Points". When you get these, you will get more points on a note than normal.
To make the guitar wireless, the Wii remote (Wiimote) is hooked up to the guitar by a wire, and encases in a pocket. The sound system is very interesting. The music comes out of your TV (or whatever sound system you have) and the guitar sounds and rumbles come out of the Wii remote. The multiplayer screen in unique in its own way too. Instead of having a split-screen like every other game has, it has two fret lines that are touching each other and then gradually splitting up.
In Career mode, you have 4 levels of difficulty; Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert. You also have 5 options in the Career menu. You can choose to Play the Show, change characters, change guitars, change outfits, or visit the store. You can choose from a variety of characters. These include: Axel Steel, Casey Lynch, Izzy Sparks, Judy Nails, Johnny Napalm, Lars Umulat, Midori, and Xavier Stone. Those are only the default characters, others can be unlocked and bought at the store. Guitars include: Les Paul, X-Plorer, and SG. And also, a lot more can be bought at the store.
Presentation
In terms of presentation, some people might find the graphics to be a bit poor. But, since I have had the Gamecube for a long time, I find the graphics to be amazing. The graphics, to me, resemble somewhat of a Playstation graphics engine. The characters almost look like they are real people. Sadly though (and I know this is a lot but...), the characters look like they are playing the guitar, but they are barely holding it.
Before you play any song, GH3 has a loading screen which features sometimes funny rock sayings and sometimes helpful tips on how to do certain things on the game. When you are playing a song, there is always something going on in the stage background (e.g. hammers pounding, Japanese monsters moving...etc.). This can great eye candy for some people.
